Max Lucado, gifted, best-selling author, preached at our church today. Unbelievably, he preached at his brothers funeral yesterday morning!! Talk about honoring commitments!
I've come into the habit of carrying my Canon around so, I caught these shots of him at a book-signing at our church's bookstore. No PP other than cropping.

Hi Gary, I dont know the guy you speak of I'm afraid. However with regards your pics, I think the people in the background distract from the image a little. Especially the one where they are blurred. Perhaps a shorter depth of field if it could be achieved would have been better?

Hey, Gary...guess I need to get out more cause I don't know this man but he sure reminds me of my family doctor. It's too bad, you weren't standing on the other side of the table so that reflection wouldn't have interfered with the subject.
But, you do have a picture for your photo album for memories.

Sometimes ya have to take what you can get, Andy. Especially, when being told where you can stand to take a shot or two.:) Next time I'll have my Oly and a CPL for all that stuff. :D

I was thinking of cropping out everything but Max. But,then it would lose some of the chaos that surrounded him. It was just an unfortunate happenstance that the guy "in charge" selected my position. He couldn't have picked a worse place if he tried. :(
Oh yeah... *I'M* even in two of the shots! heh Comin' out of Max's head.

So....the guy 'in charge' wasn't a photographer, was he..or he would not have put you in that position....:D It's all about what we want to look back on 20 years from now...and you will be able to say, 'yep, I knew him once!'
Awww...I do see you in that picture. This is even cooler cause 20 years from now you can 'PROVE' that you took the picture. :D

The blurred effect in the background is distracting but I agree with Gary - you take what you can get. This photo would be great for looking back on to show that Gary was able to see Max Lucado in person.
It appears that I might be the only other person that's heard of Max Lucado. I have read many of his books - very inspirational.

I don't think I'll ever have that opportunity - I haven't stepped in a church in quite a few years. Unless you count baptisms.

When I have a photo that is for me to remember something that i have done - I take what I can get. I would rather have the photo from where I have to be positioned at, than to not have it at all. Thanks for sharing Gary.

Never too late to change that, Debbie. :)

I was curious and googled the name: http://www.maxlucado.com/
It is always interesting to speak to these kinds of people... the people that have a gift to motivate and uplift. I personally prefer the style of less push of the religion side and more on the human process aspects, but thats a personal preference.

I know what you mean about "these kind of people", Jerry. I'd much rather have a politicians style of "push". After all, they're only looking out for our own good. I'm sure glad I have their honesty, morality and integrity to rely on and to keep track of my welfare. Yeah, I see what you mean.

How great is it that you have these shots!! I like the blur of the background. It lends to the PJ side. Not every photo has to be color, showing eyes, smiles and all in focus. It's all about capturing a moment, and this moment, with this man, was captured perfectly.
He's an awesome man and annointed for sure. It is a gift to be able to touch the small child's heart as well as the aged adult ... and everyone in between. Not many people understand that religion is just a small portion of faith. :D
