Susan & Debbie lit a fire under me with attempting to make things POP. I *did* manage to find some deep blue velvet (not belonging to my wife but, found at a local Goodwill). This is a statuette I picked up an eternity ago in Venice or Florence (See? LONG ago!) set up on the blue velvet. For chuckles I desaturated 'em.
First one with no reflector and, interestingly, it picked up a "halo" (probably because it's really blown out in the real bright areas). The second is with a reflector to the right front.

Wow, Gary, these are awesome! It looks like they are sitting under a spot light. Cool photos! Like I said, one of these days I'm going to hound you about an external flash and lighting. If it ever gets here, that is!

It IS under a incandescent floodlight with no diffuser. Funny.. I have a slave flash and haven't messed around with it yet... YET. heheh These, however, were shot with no floodlight using only a bounce flash and reflector on the right. The first one is shot a ISO 100 and the other at ISO 50. Have a look:

Gary - are these very large pictures? I've been having a problem downloading them.
Anyway - I am drawn to the B&W on the right. It seems to show more detail.

450x500, Deb. According to the one I just d/l'ed from Flickr, 128 Kb. Small, actually.

Thanks for the explanation, Gary. These look good but I still like the first ones best. I like that 'under the spot light' look. Makes me think they are sitting on display in some museum.

Thanks for the reminder, Mary. I just yanked it out of the camera bag so I'll start USING it.
Wait'll ya see my NEXT subject! heheheh
Oh, and... I'm the wrong person to asking about that! I try to MAKE everything I can (I'm soooo cheap!). And, I don't do portraits and stuff like that so my stuff is "make do" stuff.
