I was out practicing aperature today - I'm really struggling with depth of field, but here is what I ended up with. Let me know what you think.

I'm not sure what depth of field you were after but it looks to me like all of these have great depth of field. Is that what you were after? Looks like the sun was shining on you today...we got to see glimpses of it today. It would come in and out.

Yes, DOF was what I was going after. It was sunny here all day, but windy and raw. I think it got to 1+ for a temp, so I was only outside for about 3 minutes total taking pictures.

What's "wrong" with 'em? Granted, I don't have the trained eye for landscape stuff.... yet, but they look just fine to me. Perhaps as I get a little more practice at what to look for, I can get hyper-critical and pick 'em to pieces. heheheheh Kidding. Really, they look fine to me.

I'm always very critical of my own work - I was in a hurry when I took them this morning and didn't a chance to look at them until this evening.

Were you after a shallow depth of field or everything in focus?

Andy -

I was trying to get both, one with the blurred background and then everything in focus. I was out taking pictures at various f-stops and distances and when I look at the final results, I didn't notice any difference. I might have to focus on something different.

Where are you in the course? Lesson 4 deals with Aperature and explains it much better than I could here.

However, I have found that the type of lens you use has a big effect on the result too. If you use a zoom lens, it is much easier to get the blured background result.

Andy -

Since the weather has been so cold, I thought I'd jump ahead to Lesson 4 and give it a try, then come back to Lesson 3. I have chance to work on aperature later this week with both portrait and zoom lens.
