This is for Mary (you'd be proud)
I did make it out yesterday and today for pictures at a small duck pond close to work. Yesterday was too gray and overcast. Today however, the sun was shining and I thought, pictures should come out great. Well, after being out for about 5 minutes, my fingers got so cold:mad::mad::mad:, I was just snapping at whatever flew in front of me.
I would love to post pictures, but won't have time to download and process. Since I had such a good time over lunch break, I'm going out tonite on a full moon walk to look for owls. Is that dedication or what?? I hope to have pictures up tomorrow night.

Nice, Debbie. I'm a sucker for Canada's. Did you get any tight shot of 'em?

No - these are all mallards. I tried getting as close as I could without upsetting the entire flock, but as I got closer, they got more nervous. And - the longer I was out, the colder my fingers got.

I like the last photo, the Rope/wire adds forground interest but leaves it to the imagination to wonder what is below the snow.

Andy -
I like the rope one too. It reminded of when my photo instructor was sharing pictures and she had taken a photo of a perfectly coiled rope on a boat dock. Nothing special, just intriguing. With the other pictures, I was trying to catch some of the ducks in flight.

What? No gloves? I had two pair on the two days I went out to the lake. They are those little one size fits all type and I had doubled them up. Kept my fingers warm but still able to push the shutter button. I'm glad you ventured out. On a still, sunny day, the cold is not that bad. Now those windy cold days, I'm not even sticking my head out the door unless its to go to work. We have a warm up coming this weekend...yahooo..

Mary -
I was wearing gloves, but it was very windy and out in the open. We haven't had a lot of sun lately and I didn't want to pass up this opportunity. I know there'll be more, but I just wanted to get out and try.
I'm looking forward to the weekend as well. I start the B&W field trips this weekend and anxious to see where the instructor is taking us.

Me too Mary, I have been looking around my local area, but so far no joy. A field trip sounds like great fun.

Well - I'll tell you all about them. Not to make you jealous, but to share any tips/tricks that I pick up.

I would love to join a group of photographers and take field trips to different places. I think we learn so much more when we are learning together...like here..I've already learned a lot and its only been a couple weeks that I've been here. Without the groups input, I would have still be trudging away trying to figure it all out on my own.
I just might see if I can get a club started up on my own this summer....see if there are any more photo buffs here.

That sounds a great Idea Mary. I have found someone in the same area as me who I actually know but I did not know they were interested in Photography, so when I return from holiday, I am hoping to meet up with him and have a discussion about photography.:)

Mary -
You go girl!!!!
Too bad you're so far away. I got an email from the photo club about a photography workshop about 1-1/2hrs from where I live. I'm thinking about going - it's in April and only $150 for the entire weekend.
