I was in for a surprise when I got home from work tonight. I won an ebay auction on a Tripod from Amwona and it came today and its too cool...course my 'other' tripod was just a cheap Wal-mart version. It has a ball head and I think I'm going to 'like' that..its my height, so no more bending over and its real sturdy. It's a bit heavy compared to my other one...it weighs about 8 pounds, I believe.
I also got the cleaning kit from Copper Hill Images and if I don't have the stuff to clean my sensor with now, I never will...LOL..I ordered the mega kit. It has the sensor pads, the sensor brush, lens kit, a magnifying glass with LED light and a sensor Klear cleaning pen plus the rocket blower. I blew the sensor off with the new, more powerful rocket and then looked at the sensor with the magnifying glass and its still dirty but at least my old eyes could see the dust on the sensor. I might give it a cleaning this weekend or then, I might not..
My third surprise was my new external flash that my hubby bought me for Christmas..its been on backorder since the first of Jan. I've got all sorts of toys to play with this weekend.
Will answer all the post tomorrow...I'm headed for bed.

Congratulations - it's almost like Christmas at your house.

Nice!
My "main" tripod is from Amvona. It's not the one I carry around because it IS a tad heavy. BUT, it's built like a bomb shelter. A friend of mine told me it's a knock-off of a higher-end Manfrotto. I believe it because this thing is SOLID. Very little plastic -- only on the "dress" part. I really like the heads, too. Yeah, their shipping charges are crazy but their stuff is great value for the money.

I've noticed the weight as soon as I picked up the box...definitely heavier than my cheap one. But it came with a nice bag with a long shoulder handle. That will make it easier to carry...not sure I would want to 'hike' very far and carry it and my camera stuff...:)
The shipping cost me $17.00 and that is not out of line. For the distance and the weight plus the over size box, they weren't far off from normal. It cost me over $10 to ship a 2 pound box to my grands in Chicago. Plus, they did an awesome job of packaging it and that packaging doesn't come cheap. So, remember when you are paying for shipping, you are also paying them for their packaging and for their time to pack it.
Plus....I've got to get paid too, you know..:D
Thanks, Gary, for telling me about Amvona. I really think I'm going to be happy with my purchase. I had a bid in on a monopod from them but lost out on that. Will be bidding on another.

Glad your stuff came through ok. Sounds like you are going to have some fun there. Just one question, How does the slinky help clean the sensor ? :D:D

Easy, Andy! It only picks up the slinky dust particles. After all, those are the most stubborn and hard-to-remove!

And frustrating.... I was about ready to pack the tripod back up and ship it back. I could not figure the ball head attachment out. They really need to send instructions for the mentally challenged...I know men don't NEED instructions but I do!:D:D
I was trying to work the head like my cheap tripod. You put the camera on the base and then hold the release over to get it to catch. I couldn't get it on or off, once I did get it on. Finally looked it over a lot closer and figured out you didn't touch the release/catch lever. You just line it up and 'snap' it down..the release lever has to be slid over and then the button pushed in at the end of the lever to release the camera. Piece of cake, once I figured it out and it does snap on and off real fast. I was having a bit of wobble and finally remembered that they put an alum wrench in the bag and then knew what it was for. I had to tighten the little screws so the head was securely tightened and then the wobble was gone. Duh...

Mary, Men do need instructions, but we just don't read them, we struggle and struggle and eventually, if we can not figure it all out, we finally give in and have a look at the wife, who reads the instructions and then hits you over the head with them! :D:D

::DpI know men don't NEED instructions :p:D
That's the funniest thing I've heard in a long time.
Like Andy says, men don't read instructions, they just need the pictures to see how things go together. When they still can't figure it out, they have the wife look and she then hits the husband over the head with whatever they're working on after she's done with the assembly.

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:Dand almost wet my pants! :o I know you men need instructions and I know you don't read them...I'm married to the king of "I don't need those"! Then when things don't go quite as expected, its, dang it...they left something out here! :D:D The biggest dupe he did was with a fellow friend..they were trying to put up one of those small metal buildings. They worked most of the morning and then came in the house to tell us (me and the other wife) that we needed to return it cause the floor frame was not right for the building. Jeanie and I got the instructions and had to inform them that the frame was upside down and as soon as they turned it over, it fit perfectly...I don't let him live it down too often...;)

Now I am going to let all you ladies into a little secret. We men know that you like to feel special and therefore we deliberatly do things like put the base upside down so that you can then come along and "fix" the problem thus making you feel that you have achieved soemthing. ;);)

Old enough to know better and young and stupid enough to still do it. Does that narrow it down for you?
