I've seen listings of macro/close up lenses. Has anyone used them on DSLR lenses and are they effective. My standard lens 18-55mm does not appear to have a macro function(Pentax K10d). I can't afford to buy a full macro lens unit at this stage and am hoping this might be a way to do occasional shots.

I used them on my Kodak Z612 very effectively. But, it wasn't a DSLR. Looking at the listings, it appears you would need an adapter tube along with the lens(ese) which is what the P&S cameras have to do. But, not know your camera and not owning a DSLR, I can't say for sure. Have you looked at the Pentax website for further info?

I have a set of the CU filters that I have had for many years. I have tried them on my Nikon D50. They work quite well. Have no problem at all. This is the poor mans macro.

Thanks Gary and Kenny, I will check with the Pentax Dealer. Looks like its a possible solution to avoid having to shell out on an expensive macro lens unit.
