Well, I've been giving this some thought and nothing has really come to me so I'm 'borrowing' a topic from another site.
The topic is minimalism..and the meaning of this word is;
A school of abstract painting and sculpture that emphasizes extreme simplification of form, as by the use of basic shapes and monochromatic palettes of primary colors, objectivity, and anonymity of style. Also called ABC art, minimal art, reductivism, rejective art.
Ok...lets see what we can all come up with. Either a photo you have taken before or a new one taken this week. Once we get this going, maybe we will change it to a photo taken only during that week.

Holy Moly Mary -
Would this be like still life?? I'm totally clueless in this area, but looking forward to the challenge.

I am up for it, but can you please explain it to me? I don't think I am on the same path. Thanks!!!

Sorry! You are close. It's a picture of something that focuses entirely on that one thing and its simple, like the leaf in the snow shot that I sent in. Here's an example of one I come up with today. I need to practice it a bunch more...but its an idea for all of you.

Check my reply to Debbie...I attached an example. The ring on the Dear John letter that you submitted to the contest is an example...its suppose to be simple as can be with the focus directly on the subject. Nothing to distract from the subject. Here's where I got the idea...they have some excellent examples posted.

Hope this helps...sorry if I picked too hard of one but I loved the idea behind it...

Thanks Mary. The subject sounds complicated but yet is so simple. :D
Well, that's how I understand the subject should be.
I'll be keeping my eye out whilst I am out and about and see what I can come up with.

Okay Mary -
Is this what you're looking for? I found this today on one of the field trips, a bird nest that had fallen from a tree.

Yep...you got it but I'm thinking (and I really don't know any more than you do on this subject) you would want the nest more prominent, so we would definitely know the nest was the subject and not the mound of snow under it...I think (and this is just me thinking but not necessarily a good think) that the B/W pics you see in the art stores really fall under this topic...such as a lone fence in a field of grass or a solitary tree in a large field...

So a negative space photo would also be good for a minimalist photo correct?

Yes, Susan, you are correct...or in my thinking you would be..:D
As long as the focus is your subject and not all the negative space. Like a long tree in a field of wheat or an old truck in the middle of the desert...a lone sunbather on the beach...

How does this one work?
I think that one works just fine...we know by looking that the windmill (another of my favorite subjects to shoot) is the subject and because it has nothing else to distract the eye, you have allowed the viewer to look at the windmill only..you did good.
If you go here...check out the egg picture..its a simple but powerful image and that is what Minimalism is all about....simple but powerful. Also look at the man with the spotlight on him..on the site where I was reading about this, one photo was just the girls eyes..they were in color and her face was in black/white...awesome picture. One of those where you knew instantly the subject was the eyes and nothing else.

and this is a great minimalism photographer...if you have time, check out his photos...I'd love to be able to do this for my walls...

Andy, Sue and Gary -
I'm not the expert, but I think your shots are what Mary's looking for.
Andy, I love your shot. Please don't tell me you made your wife take off her wedding ring for this???

Thanks Debbie, I'm afraid I did make her take it off for this shot and it was quite a squeeze to get it off. It is nice to have a photo of it anyway, incase anything happens to it.

It most certainly does count...its beautiful...the way to make it more minimalism would be to add more background around it...like put the lightbulb toward the corner more. I like it!
