I'm pleased to say my sensor is now completely spot free....:)

I took it to Photographx Unlimited in Kansas City yesterday and they cleaned it while I was at the doctors office. It cost me $40.00 and they did an excellent job. I'm pleased and will use them again if I don't get brave enough to do it myself the next time. I plan on blowing it out pretty frequently from now on and hopefully that will keep it in better condition.

I also picked up a circular polarizer and UV filter for one lens and will get the UV filter for my other two eventually. Thought I'd just order them online.

But, how was the Dr. appt?

No the price was just fine as long as I don't have to pay that out every month.:(

I was just glad they could do it while I was there.

I go back in two weeks for some test...will know more than.

$40 for a sensor cleaning is not bad if you are not comfortable doing it yourself.

I blew on my sensor with a Giotto Rocket Blaster for the first time last night. I'm packing everything away for my flight tomorrow morning and wanted to make sure everything was spotless!

I have visited a photography store whilst I was away and asked if they did sensor cleaning but they didnt, So I brought a rocket Blaster from them but I have not tried it yet. I believe to use the rocket blster effectivly, you have the camear on your tripod facing downwards with the mirror locked in the up position and then give it a few blasts with the rocket blaster. Is that correect?

This is what I did with mine. I got a rocket blaster with my cleaning kit. They also say on the instructions that you need to blow around the end of your lens where it attaches to the camera. I'm hoping I can keep my clean by just blowing it out ever so often.

Mary -

I got a rocket blaster last weekend and I think it works okay, I haven't tried it on the lens part yet.

Andy - on my camera I just have to set to manual sensor clean then turn the camera upside down and blast away. I think when I set to manual, it opens the mirror lock. Just and FYI.

Basicaly, yes, however I'd make triple sure that the camera was uber-stable on that tripod. I think for me, I would prefer to hold it in my hand as I felt more in control.

Dust is so light that I've seen it floating in all directions, upwards included. Make sure you clean this in areas of the house that are the least dust free. My place is always immaculate, but the kitchen is the most dust free place in my house, thats where I would do mine.
