These are shots I took a few months ago next to a River in Victoria. I heard so much bird noise, I had to go and investigate. I walked up hill from the river to find literally thousands of birds congregated in an oval shaped field. I have never seen anything like this. (I must now see if I have a shot before many of the birds flew off). I think they knew I was there! Anyway, below is a sequence of shots of the geese when things calmed down.

Sorry there are quite a few shots and thanks for viewing these. I would really love to know your favourite 1 or 2 shots from this series. Any critique most welcome too.

Geese in the field with Ducks and Ibis. Just prior to this shot, hundreds of Corellas and Cockatoos were also sharing the grounds here. What a noise when they took off! .... and branches falling on my head as they landed in trees above.

okay- these made me smile! I love geese. they are both dignified and amusing all at the same time. If I was a bird I'd most likely be a goose (or a duck) ;)
My fav of the set is the 'am I lost'? If you can try a bit of a tighter crop to see if it works (it may not ). I also really like the last one- excellent comp!

Thank you Bambe, I love your sense of humour here:D
I agree that "am I lost" may look better with a tighter crop, but it had a bit of noise so did not want to accentuate this! It was fairly dark when I took these shots.
Most of them seem a little darker in the uploads from Flickr. The last one was my favourite.. I have a slightly lighter version of this and was not sure which was best.
Here is the lighter one.

You have captured these so the viewer can almost see the waddling away from you! Very nice series. The lost one makes me smile, but the last one is my favorite. It is a peaceful shot.

Thanks very much Michael. They certainly did seem to know where they were heading.
Do you know much about Geese?? In this 'gaggle', there were 6 ganders and 4 geese. Just wondering if this is unusual?

Hi Kaye, sorry can't help, Wikipedia says nothing about male/female mix only that a gaggle is 5 or more geese not in flight otherwise they are a wedge or skein.

Thanks for that info Michael, I must also do a bit of research.

I love these series of shots. They are beautiful. I like them all. My favorite is the marching. Look like they were on a tour. Just love the gray colour of the trees. The am I lost was funny. Like Bambe and Marianne, that made me smile too.
