.... with a 1.7x teleconverter on top of 18x zoom. I can see just a little fringing. Nowhere NEAR what the el cheapo lens gave me.

Very nice Gary.
I took a few pictures of birds whilst I was away but nothing like what you have with your birds.

Wow...Gary...its almost like you were standing 1 foot from him. Great shot! By fringing, do you mean the little bit of color you can see around the woodpecker?

Yup... that'd be it. Sometimes called, "chromatic aberration". I'll have figure out a way to get rid of that in the Gimp. Still, not bad for a $50 lens... heheh
