... and it would have dawned a LOT nicer at ISO 50 or 100! Still not a bad shot composition-wise.

You have some wonderful looking birds overthere Gary. I wish some would come and visit my feeder now and again!

Gary - true compistion is good. What iso did you use, looks like there might be some noise.

Same as the other - 400  I *GOTTA* learn to check after I turn it on.

Can you run noise reduction on it with Gimp?

I'll give it a shot. I think I'd need something like Neat Image.

If it doesn't work, let me know. I have Neat Image and can give it a try.

Yupperzzzzzzzzzzz. I'm still finagling with the Gimp. What are the controls named that you used? I'll see if there's similar ones in the Gimp.

I used Photoshop. I used curves to boost the contrast just a bit, then Neat Image, which is considered a filter (purchased as an add on) and the last step was to sharpen just a bit. When processing, sharpening is typically done last.

Sharpening or the Unsharp Mask?

Actually, I have a Photoshop action that does the sharpening, but I have used both sharpening and the unsharp mask in photoshop. In photoshop, the results are okay, but I since I found this action, it does a much better job and I still have control over the settings.

HAH! I found the curves and levels in the Gimp. They have a BUNCH of noise filters. Looks like I get to play for a while. A lot of PS plug-ins work with the Gimp. I wonder if Neat Image would... hmmmmmmmmmmm

Thanks for the tip(s).

You could give Neat Image a try. I think at one time it was offered as a free trial download.

If PS plug-ins work, then maybe the actions would too. Check out www.atncentral.com for the actions, download a couple and see if they work.

I think I created a monster!!

You sure did! I plunked down the $$$ for the home stand-alone version. It runs great on Linux and I just finished building a Windows machine solely for Photoshop and PSP. But, Neat Image will go on it as well as the Gimp and any other post-processing s/w I can think of. That way when I'm doing any PP, the missus can have the use of the Linux box & vice-versa if I'm doing it on the Linux box.
