    Bougainvillea - with a DIFFERENCE

On a walk after weeks of cold and rain, which is very unusual for December in Sydney, I came across some fallen Bougainvillea flowers in the flowing stream of water in the street gutter. They were very pretty with the sunlight on them and some that were under water had air bubbles trapped on the petals.

I took this shot below a couple of days later inside. The late afternoon sun was streaming brightly in the window. I held up the wet red Bougainvillea to the bright light, and shot at F/13, Shutter 1/2,500sec.
    Thanks for looking.

    Those are great Kaye.
I love the beads of water on the leaves in the first set and the deep red color in the last one.
    Nice.

Thanks very much Doug for your kind comment. I love the rich red Bougainvillea.
In the first shots, they were air bubbles on the petals under the water.

    Hi Sandra,
Thanks very much for your comment. I think the Bougainvillea is fairly well spread around the world in warmer climates, apparently originating in South America.
It has the best petals for photography!
I may post a full view of this plant later (if I don't forget), but in the meantime, here is a link that will show you a full view of the plant and flowers. Perhaps it may be called a different name elsewhere.

Another great set Kaye. Sometimes the color on these petals is hard to control due to the brilliance, but you have managed to show the brilliance without it being over saturated.

Thanks Marianne. I think the petals being wet helped with the color. It was fairly bright when I shot these, so chose a smaller aperture (F/9) and shutter of 1/1250 for No. 1 and 1/400 for Nos. 2 & 3.
Setting for the red one are above.

Kaye, did you take any others indoors, I quite like the last one with the background light highlighting the veins in the leaf, however there is another leaf in front of the main leaf on the left that's out of focus that I find a bit distracting. Love to see a version without it.

    Hi Kaye,
    I really like these.
I think the 1st one with the water at the top is really cool.
Lovely detail with the bubbles on them too.

Thank you Michael for your feedback. I must agree. Yes, I took quite a few indoors, but picked this one as the sharpest petal/leaf detail. When I have time, I will try to pick another.
