    Trials for my B&W Assignment

I have been taking the online course slowly due to time commitments, but I am now motivated to complete Lesson 7 - B&W.
Here are a few shots I am considering... I would really love your positive or negative feedback on these, as I do not have much experience in B&W.

Pity about the power lines in 3, but I did not really want to clone them out.
Nos. 4 & 5 are the same shot. No. 4 is slight HDR, and No. 5 is a normal conversion.

    Hi Kaye

Feel a little lost here are you trying for Hi or Low Key as none are really giving me any oomph Sorry.
Love the Cow Picture and the Abstract roof one but the tones in my mind need to be adjusted.

    Hi Elaine,
Great to hear from you again.
I really appreciate your feedback. Perhaps the course has changed since you did it, as we can hand in a photo of our choice.
We just need to take a landscape, a high or low key, and an architecture shot.

Do you think the tones need to be adjusted in all of them?

    Kaye,

I love the second cow shot! Kissing cows! Also, the first shot with the cows in the field field is very good, too. On the shot with the town, something about the angle of the street bothers me a little. The wires don't really bother me because they are part of the feel of the town!

Thank you very much Marianne for your thoughts. The cows kissing was just luck in timing. It's funny, all the cows came over to greet me!

Re: Trials for my B&W Assignment

I just reconverted shots 3 & 4 above and wondered if I have made any improvement on them. In the meantime, I will try to capture a couple more shots, perhaps something more exciting.

I am presuming that it is preferable for the B&W assignment to take the shot in color and then convert?
Those that have done the B&W assignment... is that what you did?

    Hi Kaye

When I did the course it was a few years back they may well of tweaked it a little ?
I always took my Images in Colour then converted them Just the way i was taught at the time... I am sure the Cow photo is the sort of shot that would be great for this reminds me of a "Cheese advert" If you read the lesson again it may state to take the shot in colour but not 100%
Thanks again for the welcome back Good Luck.

Thank you for your reply again Elaine and for your good luck wishes.
I reread the paper and it does recommend shooting in color and then converting.

    HI Kaye
I am no b&w expert so these are my not-so-expert thoughts:
    1. like it but there seems to be competing subjects between the cows and the fence
    2. love this- I might clone out some of the white specks on the cows face
    3. there's too much road which has no visual interest. perhaps a pano crop but if it were mine I might bin it and go shoot something else
    4. love the comp, the hdr added noise though
    5. my fav of the set- but just boost the curves to make it more contrasty.
    My gear:
    Nikon D5000
    Nikkon 18-55
    Nikon 55-200

    Hi Bambe,
Thank you so much, your feedback is fantastic.
    1. I must agree with you. I do have some others I took over the fence. Will check them out.
    2. Good idea... but will leave the flies there! REPOSTED below
    3. I don't like the road much either. Pano crop does look better but for the assign. would prefer not to crop too much if possible.

AND ANOTHER NEW SHOT. I have so many shots to go through, I will continue to add a few new B&W until I am happy with one for the Assignment. Would love to hear more from you all if you particularly like one
