    Wine Bottles

A friend calls me today that he is creating an advertisement for a wine company, and he wants me to take some photos of wine bottles. I shot in auto mode since i don't have too much experience in manual mode.

    Hi Joel,

Can I suggest that you get a backsheet that is curled up against the wall so you dont get aline across the centre of the photo. With regards to the critque of the wine, can I suggest you start drinking some good wines like Cloudy Bay NZ a nice Sauvignon Blanc, and Australian Wolfblass Cabernet Sauvignon.

    Joel

I have posted the following photos to show what I was trying to explain. The colours look off as I was having a go at making this photo look like a 40's Eastman Color photo.

The first photo shows the back sheet prior to cropping.

    Regards

    Delboy

    Re: Wine Bottles

joel, i have to agree with delboy on the background issue. As a microstock photographer i've done many isolation shots on white (and black for that matter). poster board like the piece in delboys shot works great for smaller items. i've actually used multiple pieces for bigger objects. These can be difficult to do with professional results as the white needs to be pure white in the final product. you've got the right idea and your framing is right for this type of shot, but the background needs help. one trick is to set your exposure comp to somewhere between +1.5 to +2. having the correct lighting is honestly the best way, but this will work if you're on a budget like the rest of us. the next thing you need is software like photoshop or elements that has the dodge tool. this will bleach out the highlights to pure white, and you can use levels to check for purity. fell free to contact me for help if you need it, and here's some examples of before and after of mine.
