The only thing grpwing in my yard

This quick snap is the only thing that is growing in my yard, and it is out of control!! It is at the end of our driveway and we cannot see anymore to get out. Any ideas on how to trim it down? I have tried and I am having one HECK of a time with it. Forsythia is I guess what it is.

Ha yeah right! I've tried that, over and over again. Does NOT work. These have taken over the whole front of our yard. I was going to call a tree service to come remove them, but guess what??? They have grown into the neighbors yard and they are connected. So even if I cut our side down, we still cannot see to the right!

Re: The only thing grpwing in my yard

You are correct, Sue, it is Forsythia. You can prune it completely to the ground and it will grow new branches or you can use a bush killer on it and kill it out completely. If it were mine, I'd cut it down to the ground and let it grow back up this summer, let it bloom next Spring, and then cut it back down again...I know this isn't the best solution but getting hit backing out of your driveway isn't good either. This sounds like a case of someone not knowing what they were planting and planting it in the wrong place. Forsythia will grow extremely big and bushy but you can control it each year with trimmers. It's beautiful when it's in bloom but not so nice looking the rest of the time. I had one in a shrub border but it got out of hand, so I dug it up and moved it where it could grow to its hearts content.

I am going to take a photo of it tomorrow sometime to show you. It is out of control! The people that built this house in 1943 planted this, and I bet its been around that long It is so HUGE, and I think the neighbor likes it on her side.
