    Another accident and new lens

Well guys my son was in another ATV accident I just got home from the hospital. My son jumped a triple (that was just put in that day)and from the force of the land, it threw him off of his ATV. He flew up in the air approx. 15 ft. and landed on his left side. They said he had pericarditis (the outer lining of his heart is inflamed. He is doing much better today! I do not want him racing anymore, but he turns 18 soon, and he told me that racing is his life and he will NOT quit. What is a mother to do???????? On a brighter note I was finally able to open up my 50mm lens about an hour ago, and I love it! I am sorry if my grammar is bad I have not had any sleep!

Sue - At this point, about all you can do for your son and his racing is PRAY!!, which I'm sure you've been doing a lot of. I am glad to hear that for the moment he is okay. At some point in time, your son will realize the danger he puts himself in and the worries it causes for you and will quit.

Before you start using that lens, GET SOME SLEEP.

Re: Another accident and new lens

If your son is good at it, this will make him happy. But if he is not good at it but still has this drive, he needs to step back and do some serious thinking. A lot of professionals get injuries regularly, the great majority non-life threatening, but they do hurt (broken bones and what not).

For you it has to be very hard to sit back and watch this, but there is not much else you can do other than talk to him and be there when he needs you.

I have a cousin that does the motocross thing... he is in the hospital about 10 times a year. I think that this year he is seriously thinking things over, as he now has a son that wants to follow dad, and dad doesn't want son on a bike. Too bad, if dad doesn't get him one, he will continue to ride his friend's bikes, and yes, he has fallen off a few times already.

If he is that good with it, I hope he finds his calling and becomes a professional doing it and is happy. Short of that, there is not much more to say.

Oh... where are the pics with the nifty-fifty??

Jerry ...yes my son is very, very good at racing, and it does make him happy. That is when he is happiest - when he is racing, or even just riding in general. I have talked to him over and over, but all he says is "Racing is my life mom" He has only had the two accidents, but the two that he did have, one involved the brain, and now the other the heart. I am there for him, and I take care of him when it happens, but it is hard on me mentally and physically. I do think to myself though "What if someone stole my camera?" I would be devastated! I try to take that into consideration. One hospital transported him to another due to the severity of the trauma, and they decided on Children's Hospital of Akron. The doctors were joking around because here he is at Childrens and he was bigger than every doctor there. HAHA He is 6 ft 4 and 255 pounds. He is a solid muscular boy. As far as the nifty 50 photos - I have been resting I didn't get any sleep so I am trying to take it easy. I will get some later though.

Ok, so they obviously took him to the right place... since he is a big kid.

I am sure he will be fine soon and back to verbally fencing with you about riding in the near future once more.

Get some rest, feel better and go enjoy your 50mm when you can. Everything is fine.

So sorry to hear that Sue. I hope he has a very speedy recovery. I know it is very difficult at the moment but try to get some rest.

    Hope everything improves very soon.

Susan, sorry to hear about your son. I know it must be very difficult for you, considering my mom gets upset even if I don't get home on time! I'm glad to hear he is okay now. Best Wishes

Re: Another accident and new lens

Chicken..he has to go back to the DRs next week for more tests. I am very scared, only because I have training in the medical field and know how dangerous pericarditis can be as the result of a trauma, and not an infection. An infection can also be very dangerous as well, if not caught in time with antibiotics. Thank you for asking. I have been one big bundle of nerves!
