    what went wrong?

I took this photo of my cat in sport mode as he was going nuts racing round the garden at his first sight of snow, however it has come out with a very dark blue (underexposed?) tint. I think I shot this with ISO set to 100, has that caused the problem?

Also I have fixed the photo using 'auto fix' in photostudio and while in time I'd love to get it right first time, it seems to have come out with satisfactory results. However are there negative effects (apart from not being very satisfying!) of 'fixing' photos in this way?

    Any input greatly appreciated!

    Re: what went wrong?

Welcome to digital cameras. Cameras meter to expose 18% grey, thats what they do. This is why snow comes out grey and black walls come out looking grey. Knowing how to meter will help you make exposure decisions more intelligently than even the most advanced digital camera can make.

If you do a google for "The Zone System for Digital cameras" or something similar, you will have your answer.

    Steve,
I'm not sure what you mean by "negative effects" however while we would all love to have perfect shots straight out of the camera there is often tweaking to be done. Play your white balance settings out in the snow a bit that may help your blue problem.
Adorable kitty by the way, I love how it's looking up at the snowflakes, nice capture!
