What materials come in the box?

I'm thinking about enrolling today in the general course to get the special price. I've looked over the site and have some questions about course materials, namely, what do you get? I see a box depicted on the web site. What actually comes in the box? Being an online course, is the online part being able to upload homework or pictures for critiques etc. Do you view course materials exclusively online with perhaps an option to download and print a pdf file, for example?

Also, what is the experience with the free lifetime membership to the 500mb photo storage? Can others view yours pics if you so desire? Can the capacity be upgraded (at my expense, of course)?

Lastly, in a question unrelated to the course but related to these forums...... how do you place a signature with your equipment in it? I looked in the profile area and couldn't find a place to do that.

    Thanks for your help.

Re: What materials come in the box?

Welcome to the group....I'll see if I can answer some of your questions. First, it is an online course, so as far as I know, you get nothing but the certificate at the end of the course. I'm not sure about the box on the site...maybe the administrator can answer that better. You do upload your images and you will be assigned a 'pro' to critique and grade your work. You can print off any of the assignments...I've got mine printed and put in a folder along with my images that I submitted.

Others can view your images but I can't answer about buying more storage.

As to your signature, it is in your profile. Under User Cp, you will see a column on the left. Look under Settings and Options and then click on edit signature. Make sure you have show your signature check under the miscellaneous options.

    Hope this helps!

Re: What materials come in the box?

    Thank you for the reply.

Here's some info that other new members of the forum may find useful:

I tried to find the place to put in my sig and still could not find it. I sent a message to the administrator, asking why I couldn't put in a sig. The admin said that, in order to minimize spam, a member has to be registered for 15 days and have 10 forum posts before a signature can be entered. This seems like a very reasonable policy.

Also, as I suspected, there is no course material other than what is offered online. When I asked the question about the box I received what might be boilerplate language about how the course works, which was concise and to the point.

The only question that wasn't directly answered was if I could increase the amount of storage space at my own expense. Due to the number of questions I asked, I can easily see how one question got overlooked.

Overall, a very positive response for the Admin.

    Hi FalvinP,
Welcome to Proud. I am sure you will not be disappointed if you enrol in the course if you have not already done so. I see nothing but positive feedback on the course in the forums, and continuously see great feedback from the course members.

Re: Storage Space: Once you have been on the site for a while and posted many, many shots, you will probably find that you do not need extra storage space. I do not believe that you can buy extra space, but I do not think you will need it.

Why not start posting us some shots. I have learned so much purely by posting shots and receiving feedback from some of our wonderful photographers.
And feel free to ask any questions.

I've begun to figure out how to upload pictures. I don't know what the difference is between uploading to an album in your profile and uploading to your username gallery.

I'm going to try and attach the one image in my gallery into this post. Let's see if it works.

    1. Nothing, there is no box, it is an online course. You do receive a nice certificate in the mail ready for mounting upon completion, though.

    2. Yes, the online part is where you read the info from your computer screen. You are then given assignments and can upload those to your personal tutor who critiques them and when appropriate, gives you grades based on the assignments. There is an option where one could either download a PDF or print the files so that you may access this info when not near a computer screen.

    3. See #2.

    4. It's there and is available, however, if you want unlimited uploading capabilities, I would suggest getting a Flickr account. A Pro membership is like $25us/year.

    5. On the top left side of the screen click USER CP (User Control Panel). From there on the left scroll down to the words "EDIT SIGNATURE". Type in the signature, and save it.

A little note about sigs... personally, I am not a big fan of posting equipment lists in signatures. I have quit another forum just because they permitted this and I got tired of seeing 30-40 lines of equipment lists and 2-3 word replies.

My advice is if you need to do it, don't exceed 2-3 lines maximum. I personally prefer to not place an equipment list in the sig, and place a quote or something humorous in there.

Even though I have no equipment list, you will see that those that follow the threads, that know what I use without me needing to repeat it in every post I make and if I need to post the equipment list, do so when needed.

Besides, if I needed to post my equipment, I am pretty sure I could fill 2 screens worth fairly easily... lol. Wouldn't that be annoying as hell seeing that every time I posted? LOL!

Keep it short and sweet, if you need to do it at all.

Re: What materials come in the box?

Thanks for the reply Jerry. I'll keep your advice about sigs in mind. One thing you should note regarding signatures however, is that new members are not allowed to include a signature until they have been registered for 15 days and have at least 10 posts. The is per a private message to the admin after going bonkers trying to find what should have been an easy link to find.

This info is not included in the signature section of the faqs area. I sure wish it had been included in that area because I would have saved a bit of time and aggravation.

    Again, thanks for your reply
