    Hight school softball

I've previously posted these in another section but I wanted to put them in the sports section.

I'm currently taking photos of a softball team to include in a year end video I produce for the team.

I didn't do it right. I linked to a thumbnail, not the link to make the picture bigger.....

I can't get it to work. I want to link pictures from my gallery to this post. Exactly how do I do it?

    Thanks for your help.

I right clicked on the thumbnail picture in my gallery where it says 6 of 6 and chose "copy image location" It inserted the thumbnail only into the text of the post but you can't click on them to make them bigger.

I then clicked on a picture to make it bigger and did the same thing.........."copy image location." and then pasted it into the "Upload file; from a url" section of the manage attachments window. It seemed to upload ok, but then nothing appeared in the post. What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi FalvinP, it's Kaye again.

Firstly, go into Gallery at top of Proud home page,
then Members Galleries. If you see a pic of yours, then click on it and it will take you to your own Gallery. Otherwise, click on F which will locate pics from users with name starting with F. Then click on one of your own which will also take you to your own gallery.

Then click once on the pic you want to upload to make it a little larger.
Then right click and find Properties or Image Info (depending upon whether you use Internet Exp or Firefox). Click on that.
Right click on site location address and Copy.

Then go to your new post and click on the yellow mountain.
It will then prompt you to paste the address you copied (so just right click, then paste). Do not duplicate the "http" bit.

This should work and will give you a large screen shot.

If you have not yet read the info from Admin about posting shots, here is the link:

    http://www.proudphotography.com/foru...read.php?t=491

I really hope this helps. (PS.. sometimes it makes it easier to open the Proud site twice. Have one window set on your new post, and the other on your shot in your gallery. Then once you have copied the link/location to your shot, go to the other Proud window which will take you straight back to your new post).

    Re: Hight school softball

Thanks, Kaye, for your guidance. I'm going to try and insert a pic into this reply.

I found the yellow mountain to insert an image. Following the instructions produced the full sized image in this post.

What I'm looking to do is have a row of thumbnails at the bottom of the post. When a thumbnail is clicked on the screen dims and the images can be cycled through like the pics I previously uploaded from my computer directly to this post:

    http://www.proudphotography.com/foru...ead.php?t=5751

I use Firefox. I went to my gallery. I clicked on the first thumbnail in my gallery to get the bigger picture (show photo. I right clicked on it and selected "view image info." The "page info" window pops up with a line highlighted. I right clicked on the highlighted line and then pasted it in using the insert image icon and making sure I didn't duplicate the http part of the url.

I can get a full sized image into the post and I can get a thumbnail into a post that can't be enlarged.

    I'm stumped.

BTW, I figured out quickly how useful it would be to have two windows open to deal with inserting images etc. Thanks for the tip.

If you want to have it like your linked post, then when you're typing your post (click "Go Advanced" if you're in the Quick Reply box) scroll down to Additional Options and click the Manage Attachments button. It will open a pop-up window letting you browse through files on your computer to upload from.

Hope that helps; don't hesitate to ask if you need any clarification.

And very good shots, by the way! (I looked at your link) Keep it up!

P.S. If you have Firefox, Chrome, or a recent version of Internet Explorer as your browser, inserting images is much easier than even having 2 windows open - you can use tabs! Try it out!

    Re: Hight school softball

Thanks for your reply Master......... I already know how to upload images direct from my computer that can be cycled through, as indicated in the linked post you looked at.

However, I was under the impression that it would be more efficient to link images from your member gallery to the post via a url. This is what I have not been able to do...... link an image or images from my member gallery and then being able to cycle through them just like the viewer can do with images uploaded directly from my computer.

Am I wrong in this impression................ namely that you can link images to a post from your gallery and then have viewers be able to cycle through them?

Again, thanks for your response. And thank you for your kind words regarding my pictures.

BTW, when I mentioned earlier that I had two windows open to deal with uploading pictures I actually meant I had two tabs open, which is much more efficient than having two windows open.

There are a few different ways to show your photos on this forum.

One is a link or list of links (for more than one image). Here's an example of what that looks like:

    http://www.proudphotography.com/foru...pictureid=3002
    http://www.proudphotography.com/foru...pictureid=3001
    http://www.proudphotography.com/foru...pictureid=3000

Another way is a row or list of small thumbnails. It looks this this:

You can also make these thumbnails have links, like this:

Another possibility is to post the full resolution image, which looks something like this:

Again, you have the option to make them link to a page or something if you so wish.

The last way, and the most used that I've seen in at least the Photo Critique part of the forums, is to upload the images from your computer like I showed in my last post. You said you already know that part, so I'm not going to bother with examples.

As for the pop-up viewing window you were talking about, I'm almost 100% certain that that's a feature specific to attachments uploaded from your hard drive.

I hope that helped! Again, if you're unsure about anything at all please feel free to ask!

    Re: Hight school softball

    Thank You!!!

I guess that confirms my suspicion that you can only cycle through pics uploaded from the computer.

I noticed that the actual links you posted went to an album within your member gallery called "previous work."

Most forums I'm on try to conserve bandwidth, so I'm a little hesitant to put a full resolution image on a post.

I suppose the closest I can come to the cycling through of images is to create a specific album and then post a link to a photo in that album. Once there, you can then cycle through pics using the previous picture or next picture links at the bottom.

To prepare for this, I’m going to put the pics in an album called “softball”, which I just created. Since I earlier learned that albums are merely a way to organize images within your member gallery, I thought that I’d be able to place the pics into the softball album directly from the gallery. I find that I can recategorize pics in areas like photo of the month, nature, portraits etc. but I can’t find a way to put the images into an album. Am I going to have to re-upload from my computer to the album? If I did that, wouldn’t it create two copies of the image in the gallery?

After some experimentation, I’m not sure I received accurate information in this thread:

    http://www.proudphotography.com/foru...ead.php?t=5761

Or, perhaps I just don’t understand. I can’t seem to find any correlation between galleries and albums. You can’t access one from the other (other than going to the top menus, which you can do from virtually any page). You can’t see images in the gallery on the album page and vise versa (sp) and, as far as I can tell, you can’t transfer images between the two areas.

It looks like I’m going to have to upload those pics again from my computer into the “softball” album and then insert the url into my post.

This is very confusing to me. I have a lot of experience with forums, but not with uploading pictures to forum websites.

Thank you again for your help.

I just copied this from my reply to your other thread, but in case you read this one first...

The "Gallery" section of the website that can be accessed from next to the "User CP" link is where you can submit images to stuff like Photo of the Month, etc. That part of the site also has a rating system, though I haven't had much experience with that. This is also where the 500 MB of storage per person you might have seen advertised comes into effect.

The albums that show up on your user profile are quite different. They only show up there, don't count towards your 500 MB of storage (I believe) and have no rating system.

Commenting is allowed in both the Member Galleries and profile albums.

Yes, they can only be uploaded to separately; uploading an image to one will not automatically add it to the other. You cannot transfer images between the two, either.

So the links I gave above went to one of my profile albums - the ones that show up on my profile page alone.

Every forum does things a little differently, as I'm sure you know

As usual, I hope that helps!
