    Camera fogging

We recently went to St. Lucia for our holidays. It was quite hot and also fairly humid. With the air-conditioning in the hotel rooms quite cool - the moment I went out with the camera, everything immediatly fogged up - and big time!
I first tried wiping with a cloth - but that just made streaks.

Finally I just waited 10 - 15 minutes for it to go away by itself.

    Anybody have any other suggestions?

    Thanks

    Re: Camera fogging

I've had similar experiences, but the other way around. shooting outdoors in the winter, cold and dry, then taking gear indoors, warm and humid. My only solution was to keep my camera bag outside with me, put the camera away, outside. then go inside and leave the camera in the bag until it warmed up a bit, then no problems.

You could do it the other way around, keep the camera in a bag inside, then when you take it outside, leave it in the bag for maybe 15-30min then when you take it out, it should be the same temp as outside and won't fog up.

A sure proof way, especially in the winter: Before taking the camera and lenses inside and have them fog up then they are freezing cold, is to put them in an air-tight large zip lock and let them sit for an hour or how ever long it takes for the temps to equalize. Try to get as much air out of the bag before zipping.

During winter shoots I always make sure I bring bags with me in the event I go inside other than home base.

    Re: Camera fogging

you could keep your camera bag on top of a heating pad and then the camera will be warm when you go outside in the humid tropical air, then it wont fog up. or use the plastic bag technique...but either way that cold metal will have to come up to temperature before it wont fog.
PS dont set the heating pad too high u might melt something plastic.

The zip lock bag works for both winter and humid conditions (in reverse)
I use Canon & Nikon gear. Remember the Camera is only a tool that lets you capture the light, it is blind with out us to see. Always use the best gear you can afford and make the lenses good ones
and remember what lies before us and what lies behind us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

I just learned that when you go from one climate ie... From an air conditioned room to a warm outdoors, or from cold outdoors to a warm indoors ... Walk into the climate change backwards. Call me crazy lol but it works. I went from a heated cottage to a cold outdoors and it was all good. All the other photogs just walked out... Guess what??? Theirs fogged up
