Lesson 5 jitters... please CC

I have taken some preliminary shots for lesson 5. I have tried to incorporate at least two compositional elements. I am still trying really hard to 'see' and haven't been at this very long (months, really) so any feedback will really help me and my confidence. Thanks.

Hi Barbara,

No need to get the jitters, it looks like you are doing just fine. It looks like you have grasped the concept of diagonals in the first two. It looks like it was a little windy out there when you shot #1, but a faster shutter speed will help freeze that motion a bit. I like the composition with the sun behind it, very nicely done. The diagonals are also visible in #2 and you might also be able to use that as an example of a leading line, depending on where that line leads you, which is a nice transition into #'s 3 and 4. I think these are good examples of leading lines. When I am viewing a leading line and it is taking my eyes through the image, I want my eyes to get a bit of a payoff at the end. In this case, my eyes followed the rocks all the way through as you, no doubt, intended to have happen. The payoff is the lighthouse (or post or whatever that is) at the end of the journey. When I combine that with a nice, straight horizon like you've got here, then I'm looking at a very nice picture. Well done. With #5, the rule of thirds might be technically present depending on what the focal point of your shot is. If it's the seagull, then we're in business. For this particular shot, it seems to me that both subjects are the focal point and the rule of thirds does not appear to be in play as strongly as it could. Keep going, you're doing great! And keep posting your shots so we can see your progress.
