I was lucky to be able to get this close to this signet swan. It's parents were not far away and if I got any closer they would hiss at me. It was quite funny really, I had spent quite a bit of time taking pictures of these swans and then as I was walking away this man who did not have a shirt on, appoached me and asked me to take a photograph of him. (I think he had had a few to drink) I passed on the opportunity but as I walked away he kept shouting to me to take his photo. I just chuckled to my self and went on my merry way.

Very nice!!! It's not very often you can get this close. You should have taken a photo of the kind gentleman - would've made his day.

Personally, I'm afraid to get this close to swans or geese. In the summer, we have tons of Canadians hanging around the parking lot of our office and they snap, gaggle, and chase.

Be careful around those guys,Andy. They can do some SERIOUS damage. Lots of power in those guys... really.

It was fairly early in the morning and the gentleman looked as though he had been at the "pop" for a while, so I didnt want to get too close. I'd rather trust the swans.

I know what you mean about these animals being dangerous but I am brave! (Yeh right) No I was watching very carefully their actions and made sure I did not do anything to upset them. However, I did find that the Canadian Geese were far more agressive than the white swans.

sounds like Andy needs to be more careful around that man screaming for his photo to be taken! Forget the birds...worry about the man!

I can tell I'd been more afraid of the hapless man then the parents of this swan! You did a great job of getting in tight on this beauty, Andy. I used to have a domestic goose on a delivery on my route...I was more afraid of it then any of the dogs I encountered. It gave me a good run the first time I made a deliver there...chased me right back to the truck. I was a lot more cautious after that...sneaking in...

That's so funny Mary, I used to deliver the post. On one of my deliveries I had one house that owned a goose, I never knew until one day when it was out, I've never run so fast!

The next time I went there, I peered over the gate and there it was hissing at me, it would not let me in the yard. Now, when we could not deliver because there was a dog loose in the yard we would write, "dog at large" on the letter, so I wrote "Goose at large" and returned the letter to the office, imagine my workmates hysterics when they read what had been wrote on the letter

Andy - I have a story from this weekend to share about strangers wanting their pictures taken.

As a group, we were in downtown Minneapolis, and a couple of female juviniles wanted to "borrow" my camera so they could take pictures of themselves. I of course said no, not today, then they wanted me to take pictures of them. Unfortunately, it was the wrong type of B&W image I was looking for and continued on my way.

It was a very wise decision not to "borrow" your camera out.
