Annual Council Photography Competition - Hornsby Shire, Sydney

For the past 3 years I have entered the Hornsby Shire Council Photography Competition. The previous 2 years we had to mount our photos on foam board to submit, but this year's competition was all done on-line, which was not as exciting in my opinion, but less costly.

I was thrilled to received an email from Council yesterday advising that one of my shots received 2nd place. This was in the Category "Buildings" (Amateurs only). All shots had to be taken within our Shire Council area. With this limitation, I did not have a huge choice of shots for this category, but nevertheless I hesitantly entered just one shot - of St. Paul's Church, Wahroonga, NSW. I'm glad I did

Thanks very much Eddie and Delboy for your congratulations. I was certainly not expecting a prize in this competition.
Delboy, I was out in the middle of a major highway on a little island looking rather out of place, so I did not use my tripod.
My settings were f/4.2, 1/60sec, ISO800, 33mm, Flash used. There were a couple of flood lights shining upwards from the garden bed.
PS I did use a touch of HDR and Orton effect to try to conceal some of the noise from the high ISO.

Well done Kaye, Well thought out and executed. That is why I asked as it looked that you had used a flash on the gate. and I can now see the Orton effect on the Steeple, Although I have know about the Orton effect I have never used it.

Kaye "she who must be obeyed" has come in the room saw your photo, and she says CONGRATULATIONS excellent photo well done.

    Regards

    Delboy.

Thanks again Delboy, and please pass my thanks to "she who must be obeyed". That was very kind of her, as I know she is rather an expert on buildings.
In addition to the effects, I had to also tone down the white in the gate and timber frame, as there was also some light on this from the street light as well as my flash. Overall, it was difficult to get some form of even lighting.
