It's quite hard to determine how long it would take you to complete the course since we have no deadlines. It all depends on how soon you're able to turn in your assignment photos, then you get grades and sometimes the assignments need to be re-submitted if you or your tutor are not happy with your progress/grades. Fortunately, we have no set deadlines so you can do the course in your own time and pace. That's one of the great course features our students love very much. On average - if you're determined and when your assignments are all good, you could be looking at completing the course in anywhere between 4-12 weeks time. In order to get the most out of the course it would be ideal if you had camera with manual or semi-automatic functions such as Aperture Priority and Shutter Speed Priority. Tripod will help you get steady shots for long exposure and night photography as required for couple of assignments. That's all the "hardware" that's really required. The course has been designed to teach you how to get the best straight from your camera without much post-processing in a software - with the only exception of Black & White conversion where we actually encourage students using a software rather than in-camera black & white. You'll be fine with freely online available software such as Gimp or Picasa if you don't have anything else. Even Windows Live Photo Gallery has good image editing capabilities.
